What do I have?

Many customers ask me how they know which model Duramax they have... so I have composed a list to make it easy for you to tell. Its all based on your VIN number.

LB7 01-04, 8th VIN is a 1
LLY 04.5-05, 8th VIN is a 2
LLY 2006, 8th VIN is a 2, 10th VIN is a 6
LBZ 06-07, 8th VIN is a D
LMM 07-08, 8th VIN is a 6 (also note this engine is ONLY available in the new body style trucks)

Now that you know what you drive, you may be wondering how much power or torque it made stock. I have a list for that also.

LB7 - 300hp @ 3100, 520tq @ 1800
LLY - 310hp @ 3000, 605tq @ 1800
LBZ - 360hp @ 3200, 660tq @ 1600
LMM - 365hp @ 3200, 660tq @ 1600

Most fuel efficient - LB7 (normal range is 16mpg city)
Easiest to modify - LBZ (6 speed allison, most powerful duramax before emissions took over)
Hardest to modify - LMM (removal of the DPF and addition of a tuner gives you 3-5mpg)

On average, your typical duramax will get you between 14-16mpg city driving before mods. By adding a tuner, turboback exhaust, and gauges, you can easily see 18-20mpg city. Some have even seen 30+ on the highway! And with a 34 gallon tank, thats a range of over 1000 miles!!
